Paul dabbled in drawing and acrylic painting in his younger years before putting it aside to focus on his career and raising a family. He returned to his interest in art in mid-life, choosing watercolor painting because of the versatility and translucency of the medium. He often looked for subjects that would lend themselves to rendering textures. Rocks, old wooden baskets, rusting buckets and hardware, pottery, and even feathers and wings became appealing subjects. More recently, his use of acrylic inks added to watercolor washes has brought textural expression to a new level and is evident in many of his more recent works.
For the past 13 years Paul has been sharing his enthusiasm for the medium with his students at the New Art Center, a local non-profit arts organization. He is a member of the Newton Watercolor Society, the Newton Art Association and is a Signature Member of the New England Watercolor Society.
